Getting Off the Fast Fashion Wagon

Those of you who love to shop will know that feeling of adding items to your online cart, and the excitement that comes with pressing ‘Pay Now.’ There’s the waiting time for your delivery to be processed, tracking your package, and when it finally arrives - feeling a sense of joy wash over you.

But that feeling fades over time, along with the mounting, unopened packages collecting on your bedroom floor. Yes, online shopping can be addictive, and that hasn’t been lost on fast-fashion manufacturers.

For those living in places like Hong Kong or Singapore, shopping is part of the culture and its DNA. But what happens when the idea of sustainability kicks in?

The thinking today is that climate comes first. So will it be hard to resist the urge to splurge?

Hush presenters Germaine Tan, Hazelle Teo and Azura Goh, discuss what sustainability and what it means to them personally and how it informs their shopping choices in a fast-fashion environment and the associated FOMO.

Through honest conversation they discuss whether they are prepared to step away from Cyber Monday sales, why old habits die-hard, and the pros and cons of investing in bigger ticket items in transitioning to a more sustainable lifestyle.

“I was horrified that Singapore’s landfill will be full in less than 15-years,” says one Hush presenter.

That harsh reality is coming ever closer. Listen to the episode below to find out more, including why sustaining a healthy future means making choices about what you put into your body.
